Dr. Markus Drouven
Dr. Markus Drouven is a Senior Process Systems Engineer with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). He has nearly a decade of experience in developing and implementing mathematical modeling and optimization solutions for energy systems. Markus earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in mechanical and chemical engineering respectively from RWTH Aachen University in Germany. He also holds a Ph.D. in Process Systems Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Drouven worked for EQT Corporation, the largest natural gas producer in the United States, for a number of years. At EQT, he was responsible for establishing an in-house optimization engineering team dedicated to leveraging advanced analytics for a broad range of applications including produced water management and development planning. After joining NETL in 2020, Markus is now leading DOE’s multi-lab, 3-year, $5MM produced water optimization initiative (“Project PARETO”) as the overall Technical Director.
